Parents are constantly worried about the health and safety of their children. Child immunization is the simplest and most effective way to protect your child against vaccine-preventable diseases.

Vaccination has saved the lives of millions of children across the globe and prevented infectious diseases from spreading.  Our low-income clinic offers free vaccine programs that allow uninsured families access to the service. Diseases that vaccines do prevent are:

 

Poliomyelitis (polio)

This crippling and infectious disease is caused by poliovirus. Polio is spread from person-to-person through oral or nasal secretions. It can be avoided with inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) and oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV).

Measles

This disease is caused by a contagious virus that spreads through the air when an infected person sneezes or coughs. In some cases, measles can be deadly for small children. The MMR vaccine prevents this disease.

Mumps

This is another viral disease that’s preventable with the MMR vaccine. The virus can be transmitted through coughing or sneezing. Mumps can cause brain infection and, in rare cases, brain inflammation.

Rubella

Also known as German measles, rubella is a mild viral infection that’s common in children. However, this disease can cause fetal death or congenital defects in pregnant women. Protect your child from rubella with the MMR vaccine.

Hepatitis B

This disease is caused by a virus that attacks an infected person’s liver. This can result in liver cancer, liver cirrhosis, liver failure, or death. The Hepatitis B vaccine prevents this infectious disease.

Influenza

This contagious respiratory illness can be mild or severe. Serious cases of influenza can lead to hospitalization and death. The flu vaccine can prevent influenza.

Diphtheria

Corynebacterium diphtheriae bacteria causes diphtheria. Advanced stages of this disease can cause problems in the heart, kidneys, or nervous system. It can be prevented through diphtheria and tetanus (DT) vaccines.

Pertussis or whooping cough

The Bordetella pertussis bacteria is the cause of this disease. It is a serious respiratory illness that can be fatal for babies. Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (DTaP) vaccines prevent whooping cough.

Haemophilus influenzae b (HIB) infections

Severe cases can cause bloodstream infections. Prevent this from happening with an HIB vaccination.

 

Pneumococcal infections

Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria are the cause of this infection. Serious cases of this disease can cause blindness, paralysis, or death. Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine prevents pneumococcal infections.
